Crater Lake Day 2 (Saturday)

Day 2 of Crater Lake was great!  We drove on the eastern side of the lake and stopped at a few different areas.  First, we drove to Cloudcap Overlook.  It is the highest point on the Lake that you can get to by car.  Next, we stopped at Phantom Ship Overlook.  It's a point overlooking the small island in the second picture.  It is called Phantom Ship Island because you can only see it from certain view points on the Lake.  This is because of the way the sun reflects off the water.  We couldn't see the island the day before from the other side of the Lake!  Then, we drove a few miles south of the lake to the Pinnacles.  They were some points that stuck up from the ground, created by volcanic action long ago.  They were covered by dirt that has eroded over time.  We had our picnic lunch at the Pinnacle hiking trail head before venturing down to the next hike of the day.  We hiked to Plaikni Falls, which was about a 2 mile hike round trip.  Finally, we hiked one last short trail of the day to take some great pictures!  We hiked to Sun Notch viewpoint. Patrick took some amazing pictures!  After leaving the park, we drove to Ashland, OR, where we set up camp and went to church!
