Redwood National Park (Monday)

Ok! We didn't have internet there for a few days while in Redwood National Park, but we'll just get right back on track.  We are currently right outside of San Francisco and arrived here early this evening (Wednesday), but two days ago (Monday) we arrived in Redwood National Park!  We stopped at the visitors' center on the north end of the park before heading to our campground in Klamath, CA, which is pretty much in the center of the park.  We dropped off our camper and then headed back north.  Some of the scenic routes in the Park don't allow trailers or don't recommend them, so we wanted to drop the camper off.  We drove Howland Hill Road, a scenic road through tons of HUGE Redwood trees.  It is amazing how the road twists and turns between the trees.  The road can be so narrow at times!  We hiked a short trail right off of the road and then got back on the highway.  We drove a short ways to Battery Point Lighthouse.  We were there in the evening, so most of the tourists had gone home to eat, and the sun was beginning to go down.  It was a beautiful time to visit, and…. we saw WHALES!  We could barely see them, but a ways out, right off the coast, there were two whales.  They didn't come too far out of the water, but we could see the tops of them and the water puffs as they blew air out of their blowholes.  So cool!  After spending some time at the lighthouse and enjoying the views, we decided it was time for some dinner.  Along the way, we've tried to avoid chain restaurants unless we don't have them near home.  We found this restaurant called Steelhead Lounge right outside of Klamath.  It had some good local reviews, so we thought we'd try it.  It was kind of out in the middle of nowhere, and when we got there, frankly, it didn't look so nice.  But, we were hungry and there were some decent cars in the parking lot… so we decided to check out the inside.  It was a cute and comfy little place with a bar in the front.  They served delicious food!  Patrick and I split a meal because there was so much food.  We're glad we went and would recommend it!

Apparently, Paul Bunyan is an icon in the area

The trees were massive!

Some of the trees are hollowed out... even some of the living ones.

Patrick is all that is man

Huge fallen log!

Since it's just the two of us, we didn't have enough people to do this, but it gives a better picture of how big those trees are!

Battery Point Lighthouse

An up close look

See that little puff of water between those two rocks right in the middle of the picture? WHALE!

I love him!
